Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how the Your Extension Name Chrome extension (“the Extension”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) handles your information.
1. Overview
Your Extension Name is an internet speed badge extension. It runs lightweight speed tests in the background and displays your approximate download speed directly on the extension icon. The Extension is designed with privacy by default and does not collect or sell your personal data.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
The Extension does not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:
- Personal identifying information (such as your name, email, or address)
- Browsing history or the content of the pages you visit
- Login credentials, form inputs, or cookies from websites
- Advertising identifiers or analytics profiles
3. How the Extension Works
To estimate your internet download speed, the Extension periodically performs a small network request (download test) from within your browser. Based on the time it takes to complete this download, it calculates an approximate Mbps value and updates the badge on the extension icon.
The logic runs locally in your browser. The results (your measured speed values) are used only to update the icon badge and, optionally, to show recent measurements in the popup. These values are stored locally in your browser’s storage and are not sent to any external analytics service.
4. Network Requests and IP Address
Like any internet connection, your IP address is technically visible to the server that provides the test file used for measuring speed. However:
- The Extension itself does not log, store, or process your IP address.
- The Extension does not add tracking, analytics, or identifiers to these requests.
- No personally identifiable information is attached to the speed test requests by the Extension.
5. No Third-Party Ads or Tracking
The Extension does not include third-party advertisements, tracking scripts, or analytics SDKs. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or similar tracking services inside the Extension.
6. Data Sharing and Selling
We do not sell, rent, or trade any data to third parties. As described above, the Extension is designed so that it does not collect or retain personally identifiable data about you in the first place.
7. Permissions
The Extension requests only the minimal permissions needed to perform its core functionality, such as:
- Access to a specific test URL or domain in order to download a small file for measuring speed.
- Use of local storage to save recent speed measurements or settings inside your browser.
These permissions are not used to access your personal data, cookies, or the content of the websites you visit.
8. Local Storage
Any values stored (such as your last measured speed or last updated time) are saved using the browser’s local storage. This data:
- Stays on your device
- Is only used to display information inside the Extension
- Can be cleared at any time by removing the Extension or clearing your browser data
9. Children’s Privacy
The Extension is not directed at children under the age of 13. It does not knowingly collect any personal information from children.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect improvements to the Extension or changes in legal requirements. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Extension after any changes signifies your acceptance of the updated policy.
